Concrete Mix Proportion Guide
This tool illustrates a 1:2:4 volumetric mix allocation for planning raw material quantities. It is an estimating aid, not a substitute for a designed concrete mix or laboratory-tested specification.
How the estimate works
Start with the target wet concrete volume. The calculator allocates the target into cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate using the stated volumetric model and an assumed dry-volume adjustment. Actual batching quantities depend on aggregate moisture, grading, cement type, water content and the required strength.
Important assumptions
- Do not treat a nominal 1:2:4 ratio as a universal structural specification.
- Concrete strength and durability should be based on the project specification and applicable local standards.
- Supplier or engineer mix designs may produce substantially different cement, water and aggregate quantities.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this for structural concrete?
Use the result only as a preliminary quantity estimate. Structural concrete should follow the approved mix design and project specification.
Why is dry material volume greater than wet volume?
Loose ingredients contain voids and pack differently. Mix-design methods therefore use an adjustment rather than simply dividing the wet volume equally.
Does aggregate moisture matter?
Yes. Moisture changes both mass and effective water content, which is why production batching requires material-specific corrections.
