Reporting a calculation error

If a result looks wrong, please include as much of the following as you can. It usually makes the difference between a report we can act on immediately and one that requires a round of questions first.

• The page you were using — topsoil, mulch or gravel.
• Whether you had the calculator set to imperial or metric.
• The exact length, width and depth you entered.
• The material or bag size you had selected.
• The result the calculator displayed, and the result you expected.
• Your browser and device, if the problem looks like a display or input issue rather than an arithmetic one.

If a figure on the site disagrees with what your supplier quotes, that is also worth telling us about. Density figures in particular vary by region, and knowing where local practice differs from our working values helps us describe the ranges more accurately.

Suggesting a calculator

We are steadily expanding the range of calculators, and suggestions influence what gets built next. Concrete, sand, fill dirt, rock and a general area calculator are the ones most often requested and are in preparation.

If you would find something else useful — a particular material, a unit combination we do not currently support, or a variation on an existing tool — send it through. Telling us what you were trying to work out is more useful than a feature request on its own, because it often points to a simpler solution.

If your question is not answered there, email us using the address above and mark the subject line as a privacy enquiry so it is routed correctly.

What we cannot help with

To set expectations honestly:

• We are not a supplier. We do not sell, deliver or source materials, and we cannot quote prices or check local availability.
• We cannot recommend contractors or comment on a quote you have received.
• We do not provide project-specific engineering advice. Load-bearing bases, retaining structures and drainage design need a qualified professional who can see the site.
• We do not accept paid placements or guest posts, and links inserted into unsolicited content submissions will not be published.
